From the Field: Meet Photo Pace - Patrick Lee
Describe yourself as a photographer - What is your aesthetic? What are you looking for in a good photograph?
I would say I am a photographer who takes priority in capturing the moment over
perfecting the shot to create the moment, if that makes any sense at all. Obviously making the best photo and try to perfect a shot (it’s never perfect) is important professionally and for delivery; however, I love shooting to capture the moment hoping it’s an angle or moment no one saw. Street photography, documentary style of photography, photography in natural light settings, those stoke me the most.
How did you come into being involved with Photo Pace?
I felt cycling created the forum/community which connected us in the first place, but in my opinion it was our passion in photography that drew us closer where we now can call each other friends. I think Photo Pace makes sense for us. It works for this group because no egos are too big, we all respect each other’s opinions and point of view, and we inspire one another to be better not just in photography but in other aspects in life. We are just a bunch of normal dudes.
What is your favorite part of storytelling?
To inspire others. Honestly I don’t feel I’m that good of a photographer or content
creator, but if what I do being me could inspire someone to shoot more with an iPhone or with a point and shoot or carry a DSLR on rides, that’s rad!
How have you felt photography has fit into your life on the bike? Have you benefited from photography in anyway?
Recently I’ve approached shooting on bikes like I am walking down the street shooting street photos, not very planned, just going with the flow of the ride. I don’t try to “fit” photography in and just let it happen organically. This way I focus more on the ride which I enjoy quite a lot these days. Cycling has become a consistent routine for me to keep my mind right and my life balanced (fam time/me time). I love riding solo which I do 90% of the time. Photography for me is my first passion and I don’t intend to make a living off photography. I am humbled by the few gigs here and there; however, I just want to shoot and continue to evolve and get better at photography.
What does Photo Pace represent for you?
A collective of friends with a passion in photography and creative content.
In a perfect world, where do you hope to see Photo Pace at its pinnacle?
A media/content creating company.
