I’m very excited about this win! I’ve been trying to figure out the long distance thing for the last few years. Some people love it and I don’t but I felt prepared and ready for the Belgian Waffle Ride.

In gravel, we really never know the competition because people come from all kinds of cycling disciplines and I actually think that’s pretty cool. BWR was a mix of road racing with technical sections of gravel/ dirt. I loved the dirt parts and hit them hard! It was fun to ride with all the mountain bikers on the first section of dirt and pass a lot of men as many of them were either slow and cautious while riding the dirt or on the side of the trail with mechanicals.

We picked out way through the traffic and established a decent gap. Road racers eventually brought it back but next dirt climb kind of exploded the women’s field for rest of the day. My focus for the day was to survive and be strong until the end. I had a few dark moments but overall my day was smooth and I’d saved plenty for the final climb attack.

After a year and half of not much racing, it felt amazing to cross the line with fans and friends in the finish area. Ripping around dirt on a road bike is so much fun.

P.S. My equipment was excellent.
